These signals were recorded by the twin
Van Allen Probes spacecraft
EMFISIS Waves
instruments on 2012-11-08 during hour 22 UTC. The measurements of the Bw
antenna on each spacecraft were used to generate spatially separated
stereo recordings during four intervals where both spacecraft were
collecting data. During this time the spacecraft were separated by about
136 km.
The videos present frequency-time
spectrograms for the two spacecraft, with a moving cursor
that shows the time position of the audio track. Time advances from left to
right along the horizontal axis, frequency ranges from low to high frequencies
along the vertical axes, and the amplitude of the signals is color coded with
blue indicating weak signals and red indicating strong signals.
