The Email distribution list is a tightly controlled Google Groups list. To join, follow this procedure using the Email account you want to receive notifications:
- Send a blank message to spdrstatus+join@googlegroups.com. Be careful not to include any other email addresses.
- Wait for a reply. It will contain a button:
- If you don't object to authenticating to Google, then click the button and follow the instructions, then you are done. Even if you log in with a Google account for authentication purposes, it is the originating email address that will be registered.
- If you neither have nor want a Google account, then do not click the button, but continue with step 3.
- Reply to the message without adding anything. Again, be careful not to include any additional email addresses.
- Wait for a second reply. This message should tell you your application is pending.
After Larry approves the application, you should be a member of the list. If your email is not obvious, you may want to send a separate message to Larry so he knows who is being approved.
The pure email registration above never works for some people, in which case your only option may be to authenticate to Google. Simply start over and click the button. The first screen presented may have the "authenticate" option off to the side.
Apparently even the "authenticate with Google" path fails consistently for some. In this case, email Larry and he will send you an explicit invitation from inside the Google Groups interface.
